Group Three Links - the music industry

For group three of the presentations, they covered the topic of the music industry. The music industry is something I feel like I could easily inform someone about as I have paid attention to the rise and downfall of stars over the years and know who and what is currently it. As for the behind-the-scenes of the music industry such as the entourages that keep the star put together and managers and contracts that could change anything at any given moment. Another fact I can say about the music industry is that it's dying. By dying I mean there is no true and pure talent anymore that leads to the rise of stardom as there are now hundreds of other people who can do the same. A way this has increased is definitely through social media as people can now find talent from the comfort of their toilet if wanted.

I wasn't able to make it to their presentation, but I do have access to their readings which help give more insight. The article I enjoyed that was listed was "We need to talk about money" by Juhi Bansal in which he discusses without nepotism or some money behind your name and staying famous won't come easily. This is due to survivorship bias in which people who have succeeded in the industry only want to deal with other people who have succeeded which rids them of talent that can't be seen with the credit they would only receive but be noticed.

The music industry is a very fascinating business and I am interested to see where it leads as so far they have removed the once idolized need for fame and attention because it seems like everyone and no one is receiving it once. Along with the talent instead of pleasing crowds with what they can do, they usually would rather enjoy basking in the clout and traction of being known. It's sad to see popstars not really being a thing anymore, but everything that is gold fades at some point.
